The events of 9/11 increased the religious interest of people all over the world. Questions of ultimate meaning are popular today. These questions are justified by the state of insecurity in which we live. Well funded terrorist fighters are attempting to destroy Western societies. The cost of defending our freedom is high in human lives and war machinery.
War conditions are making life difficult in the Western societies, mainly in the United States and Brittan. In addition to defense expenditures, foreign aide continues to flow to developing countries. The scarcity of resources makes every day needed items to increase in price. What can citizens do to keep composed amidst present pressures? An ancient poet of Israel ponders about the wonders of creation and its relation to human beings. In a gracious dialogue with God, the poet of old states:
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Yet, thou hast made him little less than God, and dost crown him with glory and honor. Thou hast given him dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet.
Are these questions and comments concerns of ours today? Certainly, these have not been as important to us in the Western World prior to our severe conflict with terrorism. But now questions about human existence are resonating in growing numbers of people.
Giving an explanation about human existence, the author of Genesis puts it as follows:
God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
If everything in the universe is the result of a creation, then the Creator must be a super intelligent, eternal being of spiritual dimensions, one of a kind. And, according to the above text, human beings are possessors of like qualities, including a most important spiritual dimension.
It is unfortunate that some human beings have used the God-given freedom to do evil. In an ever expanding humanity the proportion of evil doer also increases. The actions of these people do violence to the great majority of the inhabitants of the world. No one is exempt from harm at the hands of evil-doers.
However, most people are good, law-abiding citizens, who want to live in peace in the cozy surroundings of family and friends and the security of a job. Most of these people understand what the stakes are. Most put their trust in the Almighty, which is the correct action to take in the insecure world of ours.
The purpose of this page will be to assist the interested readers to develop further their relationship with the Creator. To the extent to which this purpose will be accomplished will be the satisfaction of this author.
