HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY

February 14 we will celebrate Valentine’s Day, a fun day when we honor our
spouses with expressions of love including roses, dinners and gifts. This year
Elsida and I will celebrate our being married 54 years. We are husband and wife,
partners, spouses, lovers, companions, buddies, best friends and more. Along
with you we will celebrate February 14th just as our first.

Valentine’s Day is preceded by a beautiful legend of Middle Ages Christianity
when several Roman Catholic priests named Valentino were attributed charitable,
loving actions toward others. The tradition is also connected with the tales of the
Holy Writs. These were a collection of popular writings seeing the light about the
middle of the 12th century concerning the good deeds of pious people.

Different cultures celebrate the day with distinct twists at diverse days,
emphasizing different themes. In the United States, we present cards, flowers,
chocolates and gifts to our dear ones. In addition we take our spouses to lunch or
dinner together with our children.

Gifts are meaningful expressions of love. Secular folks use the occasion to
present tokens of affection to intimate persons. Religious people follow their
traditions and honor God for His gift of life, protection and salvation.

The occasion gives Elsida and me the opportunity to wish you and yours the best
Valentine’s Day yet!
